Tinnitus in aged people
Although tinnitus is a fairly common disease which is reported by over 15% of most countries populations about 10% of those say that it causes them a lot of difficulty and stress…
Usually tinnitus becomes a real problem when it’s emotional demands really start affecting the sufferer. As we’ve discussed tinnitus sounds can’t be cured or controlled they can only be managed at present.
Current studies show that there is not a relationship between older age and tinnitus although there is subjective research which shows there is hearing loss which is associated with older age. In turn this may represent statistics which say that tinnitus is also a factor which occurs in hearing loss in older people.
How often does tinnitus occur in older people?
Tinnitus is not often recorded in elderly people apart from the fact that they often have hearing loss
Tinnitus is often reported as a major ear problem by elderly people. Tinnitus in aging people is a symptom which can often be defined to an identifiable disease that is not normally of a high pitched quality sound.
Over 30% of people in the USA aged between 60 and 75 have some kind of hearing problems including tinnitus.
Older people often mistake words in conversations or don’t always hear the phone. This is usual and often these people won’t admit that they are having trouble hearing these sounds.
These problems need to be addressed as soon as possible or they can worsen including causing depression, withdrawal from society, frustration at not being able to hear properly and embarrassment when this happens. I know this happens to me personally all the time. if you can get help do so.
Go see your doctor or try special training or hearing aids….whatever can help you.
At the end of 2004, the monthly compensation payments to veterans with hearing loss as their major form of disability represented an annualized cost of some $660 million.
